Story

We are Robin and Yvonne Edgerly. Our grandson Walker has bacterial meningitis. He is the son of our son Nick and his wife Krista Edgerly (Dreyer). Walker is currently in the PICU at Corewell Health’s Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Walker has two brothers, a twin, Wesley, and an older brother, Gabriel.

This has been a very trying time for our family and we were very afraid we were going to lose this lil fella. He has great care at a great facility and they have determined it was Haemophilus influenzae that caused the infection. Walker had two of his three vaccines for this; he was not due yet for the third. Many people have asked how to help and if we had a GoFundMe started. We are anticipating a large hospital bill and with meningitis (PICU, MRIs, labs, specialists, doctors, and meds) there can be many complications after, such as hearing loss, cognitive issues, and physical issues. We do not know what these will be yet as they are very early in the treatment. Mom and Dad are both missing work and staying with him 24/7. Yvonne and I are taking care of the day-to-day with the brothers, dog, and their house. Noel and Susie Dreyer (Krista’s dad and step-mom) are helping also. With their loss of income and unknown expenses for the future, we started this GoFundMe. Any donations are greatly appreciated. This has been an incredibly difficult time and to relieve some of the sure-to-come financial burden is such a gift. This will allow Nick, Krista, and our entire family to concentrate on Walker’s needs as well as his brothers. Please share this with friends and loved ones. If you are unable to make a donation at this time thoughts and prayers are always always appreciated. A dear co-worker had said to me several times “There is power in prayer!”.

Update 5/27/2025
Walker is improving but it is very slow. His official diagnosis is Subdural Empyema. This means the fluid is on the outside of his meninges between his meninges and skull. This is better news, but still a very serious condition. He may require a surgical drain of the infection.
Yvonne is with his brothers at their home. I am running kids around and helping out. Yvonne has done an amazing job. I am doing what I am told!
Any support is appreciated, we do not know how long this road will be or where it will take us, but every bit of support is so great and we cannot thank you enough. Walker is a sweet boy and we pray for full recovery.
